How do I keep AI characters consistent in ChatGPT?

Describe a face once. Reuse it forever.

In ChatGPT, add the Creative Claw plugin and save each person in your story as a Character: a portrait, a description and, if they speak, a voice. Then name the Character in every request; Creative Claw adds the portrait as a reference and the description to the prompt each time. Our four-person cast cost 109 credits to make and nothing to save, and stayed the same across stills, shots, a poster and a Spanish dub.

Start with 100 free credits. No card required.

Finished example

One series, four saved Characters: same faces and same voices in every shot.

We invented a vertical drama, The Waitress Is the Heiress, and saved its four cast members as Creative Claw Characters: a portrait, a description and a designed voice each. Every still, shot and line after that named a Character instead of describing a face again. Nano Banana 2 made the stills, Gemini Omni Flash shot them, ElevenLabs v4 voiced the whole scene in one request with the four saved voices, Sync 3 matched every mouth to its line, and HyperFrames cut the episode.

Voiceover script

“Vivian: Oops. Watch where you’re going, waitress. Damien: Lena? You’re serving drinks now? I always knew you’d end up here. Lena: Enjoy the party, Damien. It’s the last one you’ll have in this hotel. Hale: Miss Hart. Your father’s will was read tonight. The hotel… all of it… is yours. Damien: That’s… impossible.”

The series, cast and voices are fictional and were made for this page. Three of our seven stills first came out with a drifted face and were regenerated (72 more credits); the fix is on the consistent characters page. Google also refused the wine-spill shot twice, at no charge, until we edited the mid-air splash out of its still (24 credits).

The workflow

How do I save and reuse a Character in ChatGPT?

  1. Add Creative Claw

Install Creative Claw from ChatGPT’s plugin directory and sign in. New accounts get 100 free credits, no card.

  2. Make a clean portrait

One person, face and upper body, front view, plain background, in their main costume. Approve it before saving.

  3. Save it as a Character

Give it a name and a description: age, hair, eyes, costume and one line of personality.

  4. Name the Character in every request

Ask for stills, shots and lines “with Lena”; the portrait and description travel with each request.

  5. Check every still

Compare each still with the portrait before you animate it, and regenerate any that drifted.

Before you render

What should I check before rendering?

Invent your cast; never copy a real person

TikTok bans AI likenesses of anyone under 18 and of private adults without permission, even when labelled. Build Characters from invented faces, and design voices from a description, never to imitate someone.

Label realistic AI video

TikTok requires a label on “all AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio, and video,” and YouTube asks you to disclose realistic synthetic scenes. Turn the platform’s AI label on.

Clone a real voice only with consent

Tennessee’s ELVIS Act covers simulated voices, and California voids vague digital-replica clauses. Clone an actor’s voice only with their written consent; Creative Claw asks for it before cloning.

Practical answers

Frequently asked questions

Characters and voices

How do I make consistent AI characters in ChatGPT?

Save each character once as a Creative Claw Character (a portrait, a description and optionally a voice), then pass that Character in every image, video and speech request. The portrait goes in as a reference and the description is added to the prompt each time.

What should the Character portrait look like?

One person, face and upper body, front view, plain background, even light, in the costume they wear most. Ours were Nano Banana 2 portraits at 2K for 24 credits each.

What goes in the description?

Age, hair, eyes, skin, build, costume and one line of personality. Our Lena: 27, dark curly hair in a low bun, freckles, hazel eyes, white shirt, black waistcoat, a LENA name badge; quiet and proud.

Does saving a Character cost anything?

No. Saving and updating Characters is free; you pay for the images, shots and speech you generate with them.

How many characters can be in one shot?

A video request takes one saved Character as its reference. For a two-shot, start from a still that already shows both, made from both portraits with the main character’s first.

Why did a face drift, and how do I fix it?

In our test, the three stills that drifted each had two characters and two portraits in one request. Regenerating with the speaker’s portrait first, or with only that portrait, fixed all three. Check every still against the portraits before you animate it.

Can I change a costume and keep the face?

Yes. Ask for the new costume in the prompt and keep the Character; the face comes from the portrait. Save a second Character for a lasting new look, such as Lena in an evening gown.

Can I use my own photos for a Character?

Yes, of yourself or of someone who has agreed. Never build a Character from a stranger or a public figure: TikTok bans AI likenesses of private adults without permission and public figures in endorsements.

Does the Character keep its voice too?

Yes. A designed or consented cloned voice saved on the Character is used whenever you ask that Character to speak, in any language.

Cost

How much does a consistent cast cost?

Four portraits at 24 credits each, four designed voices for 13 credits in total, and nothing to save them: 109 credits ($1.09) for our whole cast.

Platforms, unions and the law

Do I have to label AI short dramas on TikTok?

Yes. TikTok requires creators to label “all AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio, and video,” and says the label does not affect distribution. Unlabelled realistic AI content may be removed, restricted or labelled for you.

What can I never show, even with a label?

On TikTok, AI-generated likenesses of anyone under 18, likenesses of private adults used without permission, and public figures in endorsements. Child-heir and “lucky baby” plots are popular; cast an adult or keep a child off screen.

Can AI drama series earn money on YouTube?

Yes, with disclosure for realistic scenes, but YouTube will not monetise “templated storylines” or videos where characters are put “in the same situation over and over again with the same outcome.” Vary each episode’s plot.

What does the SAG-AFTRA micro-drama agreement say about AI?

Producers on the Verticals Agreement may not use a fully synthetic performer in place of a performer who would have been hired for a human role without bargaining with SAG-AFTRA, must delete digital replicas within 90 days of the final edit, and may not train models on the footage.

Can I clone an actor’s voice for my series?

Only with their written consent. Tennessee’s ELVIS Act covers simulated voices; California voids digital-replica clauses that do not describe the use; New York requires ads to disclose synthetic performers since June 9, 2026.

Do AI dramas need a label in China?

Yes. Since September 1, 2026, the NRTA’s micro-drama measures require every episode of an AI-generated micro-drama to carry a visible AI label.

Who owns an AI-generated episode?

In the US, purely AI-generated material is not protected by copyright; your script and your creative selection, arrangement and editing are. Write the story, choose the takes and cut the episode yourself.
